Preston NE Ladies Vs Penrith AFC Ladies Match Report 11/09/2016

Preston NE Ladies 0-5 Penrith AFC Ladies

Penrith AFC Ladies claimed the points away at Preston NE after a superb demonstration of their long range shooting skills. The victory saw all 5 of Penrith’s goals come from shots from outside the penalty area.

Penrith started on the front foot and took the lead as early as the 5th minute when Heather Fawkes angled shot flew into the top corner. Penrith were frustrated to have not extended their lead by half time as the score remained 0-1.

Into the 2nd half Penrith finally extended their lead when a ball played into the Preston area was laid back by Sarah Smith to the advancing Hannah Coulthard who hit the ball on the run and nearly took the net off the goal as the Preston keeper never moved. Within 2 mins Penrith made it 0-3 when as Heather Fawkes smashed home her 2nd of the day.

Preston, to their credit continued to try and play their passing game and played some decent possession football but much of it was in their own half and they rarely threatened the Penrith goal. Penrith were now enjoying their afternoon and scored a lovely team goal as they built from their own half before the ball was squared to Evie Tonkin who lobbed it over the keeper into the net. 0-4.

Sweeper Andrea Lorenzi rounded off the scoring with an amazing 40 yard effort after spotting the Preston keeper off her line. She sent a superb long range effort sailing over the keeper into the net.
