Penrith AFC Ladies 1 - 6 Durham Women

Womens Super League side, Durham Women, proved their class with a comfortable win over Penrith AFC Ladies however the Cumbrians did manage to come out of the game with a large degree of respect after producing a battling defensive display.

Durham Women showed their intent right from the start and took an early lead in only the 4th min. Penrith settled into the game and were defending with discipline. Despite dominating the possession, Durham were finding it difficult to breakdown the hardworking Penrith defence. On 32 mins Penrith surprised Durham by equalising totally against the run of play. A Penrith free kick was launched into the Durham box was fumbled by their keeper with Nat Broad on hand to force the ball home.

Durham responded immediately and retook the lead and the score remained 2-1 at the break. Into the 2nd half Durham had the strong breeze at their backs and it was one way traffic as Durham layed siege on the Penrith goal. Durham extended their lead at regular intervals and deservedly ran out comfortable 6-1 winners. Penrith, to their credit, defended bravely to the end but were defiantly pleased to hear the final whistle.
