Penrith AFC Ladies Vs Boldon Ladies FA Cup 3rd Round Match Report 09/10/2016

Penrith AFC Ladies 4 – 2 Boldon Ladies

Penrith Ladies defeated the higher league opposition of Boldon Ladies in the 3rd Qualifing Round of these SSE FA Womens Cup and in doing so became the only Cumbrian team in the hat for the 4th Qualifying round.

There was drama in the early stages of the game when influential defender Andrea Lorenzi got delayed at Manchester Airport as see dashed to be back in time for kick off after visiting her family in Italy. She failed to make the kick off time and Penrith took the gamble of starting the game with 10 players with Lorenzi’s arrival imminent. Thankfully Penrith held their own for the opening 20 mins and Lorenzi’s introduction boosted the team.

Almost immediately after, Penrith took the lead when in the 24th min Nat Broad spotted the diminutive Boldon keeper off her line and lobbed her from all of 40 yards. Boldon were very fluid in possession and were at times cutting through the Penrith defence. In the 30th minute their lead up play earned a corner from which they scrambled the ball home.

Penrith responded from a well worked corner and regained the lead in the 37th minute when Charlotte Smith volleyed home from close range.

HT 2-1

Into the 2nd half both teams had their periods on top. Penrith had several chances to extend their lead and eventually took one of these chances in the 72nd min. Heather Fawkes continued her scoring streak to net her 5th goal in as many games. 3-1 In the 85th min Boldon pulled a goal back to make a nervy climax to the game.

Boldon pushed for an equaliser but it was Penrith who broke away in stoppage time and Nat Broad sealed the victory as she again lobbed the Boldon keeper. Penrith’s starting line up included 16 year olds Kyra Walton and Zoe Glendinning who was making her debut.

FT 4-2

Penrith have again been drawn at home in the 4th Qualifying Round when they well again face higher league opposition in Norton and Stockton Ancients with the tie due to be played on Sun 13th Nov. 

Penrith: Jones, Savage(Brierley), Grisedale, C.Smith, Lorenzi, Walton, Coulthard(Kennedy), Broad, S.Smith, Hopton, Glendinning(Fawkes). Unused subs were Lawson and Nutter.
