Blackpool Wren Rovers 4 – 1 Penrith AFC Ladies

Penrith AFC Ladies took a young squad to face an experienced Blackpool Wren Rovers team who play 2 divisions above them in the Womens Football pyramid. 16-year-olds Kyra Walton and Sophie Allen both impressed in their debuts for the Ladies team while 17-year-old Izzy Savage, Ruth Kennedy and Sarah Smith all produced mature performances.

Penrith started impressively and were breaking incisively from the centre of the field. On several occasions they got behind the Blackpool defence but were not able to take full advantage of the situation.

Penrith took the lead on 24 mins when Heather Fawkes attempted through ball eluded everyone and then deceived the Blackpool keeper as it bounced over her head and into the net. Blackpool upped their game and pressured the Penrith defence into a mistake for the equaliser.

Blackpool were now dominating the game and took a deserved 2-1 lead before half time. In to the 2nd half Penrith had their share of the game with Nat Broad, Elise Howarth Ruth Kennedy all going close to scoring however Blackpool always had the edge and their experience proved decisive as they ran out 4 -1 winners. Penrith’s young players can take much heart from the performance against a good team.
