They are a quality team and we are under no illusions as to how hard the task ahead is

The Jersey Tour follows on from successful tours to Northern Ireland and Isle of Man the previous 2 seasons.

Penrith AFC Ladies : Jersey Preseason Tour Match Reports

Penrih AFC Ladies preseason tour to Jersey turned out to be just as tough as predicted. 3 very competitive games on consecutive days in high temperatures was a challenge but it was just what was required to add impetus to the Ladies pre season preparations.

Jersey Women 4 – 0 Penrith AFC Ladies

Penrith AFC Ladies kicked off their programme at the impressive Springfield stadium with a Friday evening match against the Jersey Womens squad. Penrith produced a hard working performance against a very strong Jersey Womens team who are the current Island Games champions.

In a competitive game Jersey always had the edge and ran out 4-0 winner. Penrith’s best moments came from Sarah Smith who twice went close and Heather Fawkes who hit the post. Young Penrith keeper Charlotte Cousin also impressed.

Jersey Development 1-1 Penrith AFC Ladies

Penrith AFC Ladies returned to the Springfield stadium just 24 hours later to face Jersey’s Womens Development team in scorching temperatures. This impressive young team again gave Penrith a run for their money in an evenly balance encounter. Striker Sarah Smith missed a couple of early chances before giving Penrith a deserved lead midway through the first half.

HT 1-0 Into the 2nd half Jersey strengthened their team with a few experienced faces and they quickly equalised. Both teams continued to play attractive flowing football and both teams were creating chances. Penrith’s Hannah Coulthard hit the cross bar after individual brilliance had earned her the opportunity while Izzy Savage could have won it for Penrith late on when she got on the end of a cross but failed to connect cleanly with the ball.

Jersey too hit the woodwork and several long range efforts whistled just wide of the Penrith goal. Also Keeper Michelle Jones had to make an acrobatic save high to her left. In the end a 1-1 draw was probably the fairest result

St Pauls Ladies 4 – 2 Penrith AFC Ladies

For their final encounter of their punishing programme Penrith AFC Ladies travelled to St Pauls Ladies who are the reigning Jersey Womens League Champions and boasted many of the players who had represented Jersey earlier in the tour.

With tired, heavy limb you could have excused Penrith if the tempo had been a bit down but there was none of that as Penrith put every ounce of energy they had left in to one last performance. In a highly entertaining and competitive encounter real end to end football was on display as both teams sought to gain the advantage.

Penrith twice lead in the match through first Heather Fawkes and then make shift striker Charlotte Cousin. St Pauls twice equalised and the game was still finely balance at 2-2 with only 10 mins remaining. At this point the punishing schedule seemed to catch up with Penrith and there seemed to be nothing left in the tired legs. St Pauls pacy strikers took full advantage to secure the victory with 2 late goals.

Despite the 2 defeats on the tour Penrith still considered the tour a resounding success with good match practice and game time under the players belts. More importantly Penrith AFC Ladies had again gained respect and made many new friends on the way.

With team moral high and the squad bonding well Penrith AFC Ladies are now looking forward to the start of the new season. Can you help the Ladies as they look to progress? All support is greatly appreciated. Call Simon now on 07752-872920
