Leigh RMI Vs Penrith AFC Ladies Match Report 02/10/2016

Leigh RMI Ladies 1 – 3 Penrith AFC Ladies

With several experienced players unavailable Penrith took a number of young players to face a physical Leigh team. Penrith struggled to get their usual flowing football going in the first half and despite dominating the territorial battle they were failing to test the Leigh keeper.

On 22 mins Heather Fawkes did find the target as she found the top corner of the goals with a fantastic strike.

1-0 HT.

Penrith’s half time team talk sorted out a few problems and they started the 2nd half in determined fashion. They were winning possession higher up the pitch and this was rewarded with 2 quick fire goals.

Firstly Ruth Hopton broke the Leigh defensive line with quick interplay and then smashed the ball past the keeper. Soon after Sarah Smith scored at the back post from a set piece corner. With Penrith now leading 3-0 they unconsciously took their foot off the pedal and Leigh suddenly looked like a different team.

They created several good chances before pulling a goal back. Penrith withstood the Leigh onslaught to run out 3-1 winners and maintain their 100% league record.
