Carlisle Utd Ladies 1 - 2 Penrith AFC Ladies
Penrith started the slower of the two teams and in the opening 20 mins Carlisle kept the ball well and tested the Penrith defence. Penrith too often gifted the ball back to Carlisle for them to build another attack. On 23 mins Penrith won a corner after good work from Sarah Smith down the left flank.
From the corner it was Penrith who took the lead against the run of play as Charlotte Smith volleyed home Hannah Coulthards corner.
Into the 2nd half Carlisle again started the brighter, attacking with pace however Penrith’s defense was dealing well with the threat. Eventually Carlisle’s pressure paid off as they equaliser through an Imogen Longcake header.
Penrith regrouped and responded with a change in shape. Also fresh legs were introduced from the bench. Chez Brierley’s creativity had an instant affect on the game. She freed Sarah Smith on the right and her cross found Chloe Grisedale unmarked in the area and she slotted the ball into the corner to give Penrith the lead again 1-2. Penrith managed to see out the remaining 17 mins of the game without too many scares and claimed a hard fought 3 points.
Penriths win makes it 5 wins from 5 games as they maintain their 100% start.
